America’s Billboard Magazine has caused an uproar among dancehall fans after snubbing two of the biggest dancehall stars in their latest article.
The popular entertainment magazine is facing backlash from fans after they neglected to include Dancehall heavyweights Beenie Man and Bounty Killer in a digital cover for a story about the ‘Verzuz Effect’.
The omission was so obvious that Verzuz and the Dancehall veterans joined fans on Twitter and Instagram in calling out the publication for the blunder.
The Verzuz series, which was started in March by producers Swizz Beatz and Timbaland, provides a platform for musical icons from various genres to square off, hit for hit live online.
The battle between Beenie Man and Bounty Killer on May 23rd gave the series a significant face lift when they were the first to compete in the same space, in true Dancehall sound clash style.
It is for this reason that fans were angered when they were the only artistes who were not featured on the digital cover and fans immediately took to social media to call out the magazine.
Versuz founder Swizz beats credited the two artistes for the platform’s growth.
“This would not have been possible without Beenie Man & Bounty Killer, who set a big tone for our audience and represented for Jamaica.” He tweeted
He further went on to edit, Billboards original cover to include both Beenie Man and Bounty Killer while replacing himself and Timbaland.
