Under fire over corruption allegations that has marred sports in the country Member of Parliament (MP) for Westlands constituency Timothy Wanyonyi is now calling on the government to bring to book officials found guilty of mismanaging Sports funds in the country.
Wanyonyi pointed out that the government gave out 10 million shillings Six years ago to ensure the new look of sports facilities including Joseph Kang’ethe and Kiumbuini football pitches in Kibra constituency,Nairobi.
“We gave out funds for the development of the sports facilities in Nairobi in 2010,but up until now we are not aware of how the money was used”.
Wanyonyi was speaking at an event to promote local sports at the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) offices where he handed a Ksh.350,000 cheque which will be used to boost local sports clubs in Westlands.
He however gave the assurance to establish a productive working relationship with Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Nairobi branch to ensure the new look of sports facilities as well as develop football at a grassroot level in Nairobi.
He also said “it is time the public should get involved in sports matters to keep the governing bodies on toes especially on how funds are spent”.
Also present at the event was FKF National Executive Committee member Chris Amimo who lauded Wanyonyi’s move to support local clubs.
“We’ll have a fantastic physical legacy in terms of sporting facilities we didn’t have before if we continue to get this kind of support from our MPs”.
