WASH United Girls Soccer Tournament kicked off on Friday August 19th and will be climaxing to a closing ceremony Sunday, August 21st 2016 at the Starehe Boys Centre,Nairobi.
This year, the girls’ soccer tournament themed “End the Hesitation around Menstruation” will see 1,278 participants from 72 teams of 3 different age categories including U-13,U-15 and U-16.
“There is need to sensitize girls and assist them in embracing menstruation.The tournament is only meant for girls given that they are the ones facing the challenge.They are the best tools to drive the message.”
The tournament aims to encourage and empower girls to take up sports integrating soccer, advocating for behavior change and acquisition of life skills.
In addition to the football matches, participants and fans will be engaged in life skills activities on HIV/AIDS, WASH promoting sanitation, hygiene, menstrual hygiene and advocacy on youth right, child protection and testing for HIV.
The Chief Guest during the event will be FKF Deputy President Doris Petra.Also in attendance will be FKF President Nick Mwendwa and MYSA Chairman Bob Munroe.
