Tusker on Friday released the first proceeds from sales of the Tusker Gold edition through the Twende Rio campaign, to the National Olympic Committee of Kenya at an event held at the EABL offices in Nairobi.
EABL who presented the proceeds to NOCK, launched the Twende Rio campaign in April to rally Kenyans behind the national team that will represent the country at the 2016 Rio Olympics.
Through the campaign Kenya Breweries Limited (KBL) promised to give part of the proceeds from the sales of their new brew the Tusker Gold edition, to NOCK for the preparations of Team Kenya to the Olympic Games in August.
Kenya Breweries Managing Director Jane Karuku congratulated the gallant athletes who made the final cut to represent the country for the August games and reaffirmed Tusker’s commitment to support the team to the end.
“I’d like to congratulate NOC-K for the work they have put in so far in the preparations of the various teams and disciplines for the games. We will keep working hand in hand towards making sure that the athletes are well taken care of.”
The sum total of 3 Million Kenya shillings is the first disbursement of funds from the sales of Tusker Gold edition to NOCK through the Twende campaign.
Subsequent donations are set to be made at later dates as the games near.
In attendance was National Olympic Committee Kenya (NOC-K) president Kipchoge Keino who promised that Team Kenya will deliver more medals than before.
“The team is committed more than ever. And we thank Tusker for supporting the Kenyan team to prepare adequately before they depart for the games,” he said at the morning event.
Through the campaign, Tusker will also be taking 3 lucky winners alongside one of their friends to watch team Kenya in Rio.
