Kenya has a total population of 47, 584,296, this is according to the population census report released today.
The census exercise which was conducted two months ago, shows that female citizens are more than the male at the approximate number of 24.014 million while that of men is 23.548 Million.
Intersex people (Those with both male and female organs) are 1524.
The census exercise also put Nairobi county, Kiambu County, Nakuru, County and Kakamega County as the most populous at 4.3 Million, 2.4 Million, 2.1 Million and 1.8 Million respectively.
The least populous counties were Lamu, Isiolo, Samburu, Tana River, Taita Taveta.
The results were released by the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics CEO Zachary Mwangi at State House today.
President Uhuru Kenyatta commended everyone who participated in the exercise and also security agencies that participated in the exercise making it successful.
“The numbers released today will go a long way in guiding successive planning for the benefit of all Kenyans. I expect that KNBS will release the other census volumes and make them available to planners,” said Uhuru.
