Nairobi Governor Dr. Evans Kidero has said that the Refurbishment of City Stadium to international standards will commence in March 2017.

Speaking Ghetto Radio Sports Kidero said they will meet with the Sponsors Sportpesa and Architect next week and agree on the final design.

“We will meet with the architects, Sportpesa people next week, agree on the final designs then by March commence the construction”.

Home to the Kenya Premier League Giants Gor Mahia the County Government and betting firm Sportpesa are expected to spend Ksh 200 million to upgrade the facility.

The pitch and the tartan track will be removed and replaced.Terraces will also be refurbished.

The stadium has been in deplorable condition and was barred from hosting the Kenya Premier League matches.

Besides the City Stadium, Kidero revealed that an upgrade of most of playing fields in Nairobi will be undertaken Starting with Ziwani Grounds home to the oldest and the biggest offseason tournament in the Country.

He said that the County is committed to make the field better saying that the survey is being done and the budget will be set for the work.

“Ziwani Grounds has produced some of the biggest talents in the Country so it is our desire and commitment to upgrade the pitch”.

Others to be refurbished include Joseph Kangethe that is mostly used for the indoor games.Kidero said that the social halls will be renovated .

Kidero vowed to reclaim grabbed social halls so that they can be used for their purpose they were intended by the youth.
