Counting down to the beyond zero marathon campaign that is scheduled to take place on the 6th of March, is still going on.
Beyond Zero Campaign initiative was launched with an aim to accelerate the implementation of the national plan towards the elimination of new HIV infections among children In order to improve maternal and child health outcomes in the country.
First Lady Margaret Kenyatta on Tuesday launched the third edition of the First Lady’s Half Marathon 2016 whose proceeds go to Beyond Zero Campaign, a grassroots healthcare initiative.
This year’s campaign targets to bring together over 70,000 participants, more than double last year’s runners. The campaign, has at the moment registered 25000 participants manually.
The campaign has at now managed to collect Ksh.165m from sponsors in cash.
Besides the 21km stretch, this year’s edition of the Half Marathon incorporates special features including a wheelchair race and 2km, 5km, and 10 km races.
According to the traffic department there will be several diversions and closures that will take place between1.00am to 4.00am respectively.
Areas that will be affected that day include, Mombasa road, Langata road Uhuru highway and Ngong’ road
Komaso area opposite Christian foundation Church,Baricho road and Nakumatt Mega will be used as a parking bay
There will be Police officers on the ground to assist motorist in terms of giving timely directions as well as addressing their concerns.
Meanwhile the police urge motorist to adhere to the signage as well as making the event a success.
The ultimate goal for the Beyond Zero campaign is to put up a State-of-the Art hospital for women and children.
The marathon will be flagged off at Nyayo Stadium
