18 people arrested for assaulting OCS and burning down a Police Base
DCI detectives have arrested 18 people in connection with the assault of an OCS and the burning of a Police Patrol Base in Likuyani, Kakamega County.
The 18 suspects assaulted an OCS attached to Matunda Police Station who was responding to a claim that a 21 year old boy had assaulted a police officer attached to Mbururu Police Patrol Base.
The rowdy mo of about 200 people is reported to have been protesting against the arrest of the boy that took place on Wednesday.
They allegedly pelted the OCS with stones, seriously injuring him before setting ablaze the patrol base and damaging a police vehicle.
“The suspect in question; Denis Lusava alias Makali had been arrested on 7th October 2020 for assaulting the officer in charge of Mbururu patrol base but was released on a free bond at 12.40pm pending the filling of a P3 form,” said the DCI.
“The suspect’s mother went to the base yesterday and reported that her son never went home after being released, whereby she was referred to the OCS Matunda Police Station for further assistance,” the Dci further stated.
A combined reinforcement by APS, DCI and GSU Mt. Elgon managed to restore order in the area, with the said eighteen suspects in custody.
