14 people perish in early morning accident at Matuu

14 people lost their lives in an early morning accident when a bus rammed into a stalled lorry in Matuu.

The bus belonging to Medina Sacco was heading to Nairobi from Garissa before ramming into the truck which had just broken down.

Yatta police boss Njoroge Karanja, confirmed the incident stating that 10 men, 2 women and 1 child perished immediately on the scene.

The truck driver was taken to Matuu police station to record a statement for failure to display reflectors to warn other drivers.

Makueni county commander Mohamed Maalim said that 27 passengers were injured in the Wednesday morning accident adding that those who are in critical condition will be flown to Nairobi for treatment.

He also confirmed that the injured were rushed to Matuu Level 4 hospital

This accident comes a day after a 14 seater matatu collided with a lorry on the Mombasa-Nairobi highway killing three people.
