Prime Minister Raila Odinga has suspended the boards of the National Council for Persons with Disability and National Development Fund for the Disabled alleged misappropriation of funds meant to help the disabled amounting to 1.8 billion shillings.
The move by the PM came few hours after Kenya Society for the Mentally Handicapped called for suspension of Executive Directors and Boards of Trustees of the two organizations over graft claims earlier.
Speaking to Ghetto Radio News earlier, Shadrack Mutuku- parent to a disabled child, called on the government to deal with corruption in the council which was denying many people with disability proper services, education and healthcare.
Similarly, Bernard Muguku- a resident of Satellite area in Nairobi and also a father to a disabled child, said he had been turned away from NCWPD and undergoes a lot of challenges catering for his 32 year old son yet funds were being squandered.
Muguku called on the Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission to act quickly and punish those culpable at the two bodies to ease the suffering of the disabled in the country.
