The ministry of public health has launched a campaign to address deaths of expectant mothers and children under the age of 5 years.

The Director of Public Health and Sanitation Shanaz shaarif says despite having made huge improvements on the matter in the recent past, a lot of mothers and children especially in rural areas and slums are still facing this challenge.

Meanwhile the Director of children’s health in the ministry Silas Agutu also says diarrhea is the leading cause of these deaths, contributing 20 percent of deaths of children under the age of five.
