Do away with the Biometric Voter Registration – ICPC

Posted by

International Center for Policy and Conflict Executive Director Ndung’u Wainaina has called on Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission- IEBC to do away with the Biometric Voter Registration exercise and revert to manual registration.

Wainaina says the next general election was too critical for the country to apply a technology that cannot be trusted by the public to be effective.

Speaking to Ghetto Radio News at a Nairobi forum on credible elections, he proposed that the biometric voter registration be used after the 2013 poll to allow Kenyans to acquaint themselves with it to avoid confusion in the vote.

He at the same time appealed to parliament not to rush the National Security Intelligence Service- NSIS Bill, Kenya Defence Force Bill, Leadership and Integrity Bill and National Security Council Bill as they were critical for the country’s security and called for extensive public involvement before they are passed.
